Funding cuts to culture and heritage in Wales

Following a discussion at the RAI’s March Council meeting, our President wrote on behalf of the Institute to Dawn Bowden, the relevant minister in the Welsh Government, to express our dismay at the planned cuts to culture and heritage in Wales, and their impact on the National Library of Wales, Amgueddfa Cymryu – National Museum Wales, Cadw and the Royal Commission.

Among those copied in was Jane Richardson, the Director of Amgueddfa Cymryu – National Museum Wales, who has replied:

"Many thanks for taking the time to write to WG Ministers on behalf of our sector and flagging the impact of the cuts. It has been an enormously difficult time trying to identify ways of cutting our annual budget by £4.5m. So it means a lot to all of us when organisations like yours take the time to lobby on behalf of the work that we do. Please do pass on our thanks to your members for their concern and their support".
